4 year old with "shotty lymph node" for almost a year. antibiotic didn't solve the problem. reevaluation in a week. worried it will be cancer advice?

Follow up with doc.: If the child has been seen by a doctor, and if you are told that there is nothing to worry about, do not worry. Glands are very often felt especially on the side of neck. This is because at 4 years of age there is not enough fat under the skin on the side of the neck to cover them up. The glands are made of the cells of immune system. Do not worry if you are told that they are not due to cancer.

Normal variation: Shotty lymph nodes are commonly palpable over the muscles of the neck, back of head & in the fold of the groin.They are often pea-peanut in size at rest & enlarge to the size of a giant olive if stimulated, cycling back to pre-stimulated size in 3-4 weeks.Occasionally they become infected and need to be drained or removed.I have never seen a cancerous one in a kid in > 30 yrs of pediatric practice
