My 11 year old son was diagnosed with a necrotic lymph node in his neck and mono, is this possibly cancer? or could it just be due to the mono?

Necrotic lymph node: A pathologist who evaluated your child's lymph node is the best person to answer your concern.

Necrotic Lymph Node: Necrosis can be associated with malignancy in certain settings. Another possible cause of necrosis is an atypical infectious process -- something that was given the name bubo in the past for its very specific appearance. A rare association with necrosis w eb virus infection (that and CMV cause mononucleosis) has been reported. I recommend follow up with your physician to address these questions.
