GERD: Severe reflux can result in the development of barrett's esophagus; which has an increased incidence of developing esophageal cancer. Upper endoscopy is a simple method for evaluating any esophageal disease. If your problem is severe, you should be on some form of acid blockade such as omeprazole. You may even benefit from some type of antireflux surgery.
