Yes: High reflux or laryngeal-pharyngeal reflux (lpr) is one of the most common causes of hoarseness. The strong acid that comes from the stomach can cause chemical injury to the true vocal folds. An appropriate drug such as Prilosec (otc) or Nexium (esomeprazole) and a visit to a GI specialist is in order. An ENT doctor can also treat you.

Depends: It depends on the severity of your reflux. If an ENT doctor is telling you that have this finding, you should seek evaluation from a gastroenterologist to determine if you truly have acid reflux.
