Will my brow movement come back normal after a forehead lift?

Yes: A forehead lift gently raises the brow position into an aesthetically pleasing position which can positively effect the entire upper eyelid/forehead region. At the same time, the muscles that tend to pull the inner brow down and in causing frown lines can be treated to lessen their effect and thus limit certain expression lines. Some return of movement is both expected and more natural.

Usually: Depending on type of lifting, amount of swelling, etc. Limited mobility is pretty normal. Occasionally there can be injury or swelling of a small nerve located on the outside of the forehead area which can be stretched or injured. Over several weeks-months this typically returns.

It Should: Browlifts can be performed either endoscopically or though a forehead or scalp incision. Generally, there is some temporary effects on the sensory nerves. The motor nerves are almost always preseved. However, with any surgery, there may be a rare case when brow movement is impaired. In some cases, there may be a few weeks delay for full recovery of the motor nerves if they are bruised.

It depends: There are many different types of browlifts. In some, the muscles of the forehead are cut out or weakened with cuts. If they are removed, they may not regrow. If a nerve was damaged or cut, it will usually regrow in six months but it may never be as strong as it was before the surgery. Ask your surgeon what he/she did in the surgery and if movement is expected to return.
