Appendicitis: The appendix is a "worm like" structure off your cecum at the point where your small bowel connects to your colon. The normal appendix is 10cm long and up to 6mm wide. So anything above 6mm is associated with an inflamed appendix. I am unaware of any studies that indicate specific amount of swelling and time of rupture. The thing you do not want! only asking for trouble to delay care.

See a doctor: If your appendix is inflammed and 9.5 mm thick on ct, you probably have acute appendicitis and should prompt you to have nothing by mouth and see your physician or go the er asap. There is usually 48 to 72 hours between the onset of appendicitis and rupture but that is not absolute and you should not tempt fate. I'd go to the er tonight! good luck!

Time of symptoms: Appendix is enlarged at 9.5 mm in diameter. If inflammed significantly perforation can occur.Risk of perforation 36 hours after the onset of symptoms is at least 15%. most frequent complication of appendicitis is perforation. Perforation of appendix cause peri-appendiceal abscess or diffuse peritonitis (infection of entire lining of abdomen) Major reason for appendiceal perforation is delayed dx.
