A member asked:

My appendix ruptured and doctor said my body "walled the infection off" does that mean an abscess ? and also does that mean the infection did not spill into my entire abdomen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No, and yes: No, it doesn't necessarily mean an abscess, but it could turn in to one. Yes, the infection did not spill into the entire abdominal cavity. In this situation, usually you avoid operating in the acute setting, then have to decide whether or not to remove the appendix 6-8weeks (or more) down the road.
