Need more tests: Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) or aspartate aminotransferase, ast is a useful biomarker of liver injury. However, ast is also present in other tissues, so is not specific to the liver. You should have additional testing done to include all components of the liver function, bilirubin, sgpt/alt, alkaline phosphatase as well as a viral hepatitis panel.
