Wait: Don't exercise immediately after a meal as blood supply is directed toward the digestive tract and away from muscles. It's best to allow your stomach to fully empty before exercising. Remember when your mother told you not to go swimming after a meal as you can get severe muscle cramps ?

Before is better.: Exercise before eating for three reasons: (1) working out after eating can cause stomach upset, (2) working out before eating will use your fat stores for energy, chipping away at them and helping you to build a leaner body, and (3) eating after working out will help your body deposit the calories from the meal usefully in the muscles and liver as opposed to in fat stores.
