A member asked:

Are cortisone shots effective at treating wrist pain being caused by a cyst ? or would it just be a temporary solution ?

Assuming you are: Talking about ganglion cyst, if cyst and pain resolves after aspiration and injection, it should be effective for long time. If cyst is in a bone, it could be only temporary. Ask for referral to hand surgery specialist if symptoms persist.

Corticosteroid injec: Can be effective if there is concurrent synovitis, pain and swelling in the region. At times the cyst itself acts life an irritant in the wrist and it reduces that as well. Finally the cyst may decrease in size or get smaller or may go away with the injection. Some just aspirate the cyst but many also inject. Recurrance is possible thus if it recurs then its temporary, but if it stays away..
