Ultrasound a year back suggests ill patchy hypoechoic areas in both submandibular glands but mri suggested normal and symmetric glands 2 months back

MRI should: Be a better exam than ultrasound in this setting. Assuming that the ultrasound and MRI were done close to the same time i would go with the MRI results being normal. Your symptoms suggest the possibility of sjogren's syndrome.
