How to tell: Malignant lymph nodes are usually non-tender, may be of any consistency but are usually firmer than other nodes, often stick to surrounding structures, and are simply not normal-feeling. At your age, having cancer announce itself as a node that's not obviously very abnormal is very unlikely.
