Tmj: A TMJ specialist. Unfortunately true TMJ specialists are few and far between. You will have to be careful to properly vett the specialist you see. An orthodontist or dentist may be necessary to help properly restore your occlusion to proper function after the TMJ specialist has resolved your condition.

Depends: Depends on cause of your joint dysfunction. If malocclusion is causative/contributory you will not be able to resolve problem without resolving the cause.

A few types: Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
