See a urologist: It is not hard to diagnose varicocele.... 13-17 % of men have lt varicocele. Most of the times it is of no significance. At times is causes discomfort in scrotum, and at times it contributes to infertility check with a urologist.

Urology and US: Getting an exam of his scrotum and testicles, that may include a diagnostic scrotal ultra sound would be the first step, then your husband and the urologist would discuss treatment options that may include a possible surgery if need be, etc. Best wishes.
