Few days: Post lumbar puncture headache post lumbar puncture headaches are very common, some say 1 in 3 will get it. Can be a result of irritation of the meninges around the cord, or from what is called a spinal leak at the site of the procedure. Typically these resolve in a few days with rest and good hydration. If longer than that, seek medical attention for other options.

Post dural puncture : A spinal or post dural puncture headache occurs when you receive a lumbar puncture, usually in a work up in er for headache. It can occur after spinal anesthetics as well. Occurs only when sitting or standing and goes away if you lie back down completely. Generally bed rest, lots of hydration and oral caffeine will help and headache lasts a couple days but a epidural blood patch may be needed.
