Maybe- maybe not: Physical therapy, focused on strengthening vmo strength in your quad muscle, and hamstring and calf stretching, avoiding squats and similar stressful positions, going up and down stairs sideways can help decrease the symptoms. Will not affect the cyst. If you return to same activity without modification....Same symptoms likely to return. You may need to see ortho surgeon.

Let advice you: When you have grade 3 chondromalcia of the patella there must be a reason. The most common subluxation of the pattela, the second could be recurrent trauma. You to see which one and address the issue ether by treatment or arthroscopy and debarment of the patella, then you could p t to help to strength the muscles. I do not know of any supplements help. Thank you.

Possibly see ortho: Difficult problem. Especially if your symptoms correlate with your MRI findings. If your pain is behind the knee cap then there is good correlation. Initially nonoperative intervention such as therapy, use of anti inflammatories and patellar brace may be helpful. The possibility of arthroscopic evaluation if all fails may be necessary but still a difficult problem to fix. Supplements controversial.

PT: Chondromalacia patella is doing in balance in the function of the muscles of the quadriceps. Physical therapy exercises such as quad sets usually work very well. You may have to delay doing sports for a period of time until the condition improves
