Cleans pockets: If your dentist recommends having root planning, this means you have some deep pockets that you cannot clean on your own. You might also have some bone loss associated with this. Once the tissues are cleaned up, the teeth could tighten up, but they might not.

See a Periodontist: When your dentist sees perio pockets depths of 4mm or higher he/she will recommend a periodontal deep cleaning. It requires local anesthetic because the teeth are scraped several millimeters below the gum line. It also has to be done in a few separate visits. If your loose and mobile teeth, your dentist can refer you to a specialist periodontist.
