Absolutely !: Deep cleaning is indicated for patients who have an unusually large amount of calculus and/or periodontal pocketing. It involves meticulous removal of hardened deposits above and below the gumline in an effort to bring the gums back to optimum health. It is perfectly safe.

A deep cleaning: if done by a licensed dentist or hygienist is very safe and effective in removing bacteria and other debris that is on your teeth and often underneath your gums.

Safe and predictable: When your dentist sees perio pockets depths of 4mm or higher he/she will recommend a periodontal deep cleaning. It requires local anesthetic because the teeth are scraped several millimeters below the gum line. It also has to be done in a few separate visits.
