Swollen palate: It is difficult to determine how a dental cleaning, deep or otherwise, could cause palatal swelling UNLESS you have advanced periodontal gum and bone disease and the instrumentation has induced an infection. If you have a fever or other symptoms (chills, nausea, etc) you may have an infection. In such cases, these findings are not "normal" and you need further treatment, possibly antibiotics.

Probably: Normal with deep cleaning. Should not persist 8 days later however. If still present, you may want a second opinion.
