Yes: Yes. Improperly designed, or improperly worn mouth guards can move teeth. Make sure you make your scheduled follow up appointments with your dentist to monitor progress.

Yes: As can anti-snoring appliances that cause jaw repositioning. Please make sure appliance is comfortable, does not make teeth or jaws sore, and is checked frequently. Once every 6 months may not be often enough.

TMJ Also: More concerning than messing up the teeth is that a hard bite guard can seriously affect a problem with your TMJ and/or muscle dysfunction problems.
