Swollen cheek: Some swelling after an extraction in not unusual. Follow the post-op instructions given to you by the surgeon. Ice for 24-48 hours, then moist heat. If the swelling does not resolve within a week, contact the surgeon.

Bitten cheek: It is possible that you have accidently bitten/chewed on your cheek while you were numb. If it worsens and/or is not starting to resolve within 48 hours go back to your dentist for an evaluation. In the mean time use warm salt water rinses 3-4 times daily, no spicy or acidy foods, apply ice (wrapped in a cloth) to the outside of your cheek , take tylenol (acetaminophen) as per instructions on the bottle.

It is normal: Swelling after tooth extraction procedure is normal body reaction. Don't be overly alarmed and follow your dentist instructions.
