Bunion Surgery: Usually a day surgery (meaning you go home the same day), takes about 1-2 hours depending on the surgeon and choice of procedure. Usually involves shaving off the bump, making a cut in the bone, and holding it in place with a screw. It takes about 6-8 weeks for it to heal. My patients are usually walking immediately in a special shoe that only lets you bear weight on the heel.

Select right surgeon: Most surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis under IV sedation. The type of Bunion surgery depends on a variety of factors: severity of deformity, quality of the joint, patient health, etc. most can weightbear immediately in a special shoe/boot. Most will be back in a shoe in 4-6 weeks. Will have some swelling for 4-5 months. Visit ACFAS.org to find surgeon near you. Dr L
