Painful, remove it: If a screw breaks after bunion surgery, the time frame after the surgery that it broke and the position of the broken screw will determine if it needs to be removed. If the osteotomy site has not yet healed, it needs to be removal and another one inserted. If the osteotomy has healed, then it is a question as to whether the screw is symptomatic. If it isn't leave it in and monitorits position.
