Nasal blockage: Given a history of asthma, you likely have hay fever as well. The nasal swelling leads to obstruction at the tubes ventilating the inner ear leading to fluid in the ear. Thus your problem was not from the infection shifting from one side to the other but rather by not controlling the nasal congestion. Consult your doctor get something to open up your nose .
