Depends: There is a condition known as multiple myeloma which is a cancer that can be quite serious and involves the plasma cells of the immune system. When it is spread throughout the body, the prognosis can be quite poor. A plasmacytoma, refers to a the same type of cancer, but where it is entirely limited to one vertebrae; and so, if he really does have a plasmacytoma, the prognosis is a lot better.

It is a cancer: Plasmacytoma is a localized form of myeloma a cancer of the plasma cells. Most such patients ultimately develop generalized myeloma. But not all of them . There is fairly long survival possibilities with this condition when treated by an expert hematologist.
