The difference...: Is that in a panniculectomy, the excess "apron" of fat and skin is removed from the abdomen through a long incision at the lower abdomen. In an abdominoplasty, the same thing is done but also (and very importantly) the rectus muscles are brought back to their normal position in the midlne and the abdominal muscular wall is tightened.

Not always: These are general two different procedures performed for different indications. A panniculectomy is often performed for massive weight loss or obesity and essentially consists of skin removal withnthe attached fat. This can require several hours snfd require hospitalization which may dramatically increase the costs. A tummy tuck is generally cosmetic and these prepay rates are generally lower.

Muscle tightening: A panniculectomy involves removing the skin and fat below the belly button. This can sometimes be seen in the very obese, and often in those who have lost a great deal of weight and now have loose hanging skin. This can sometimes be covered by insurance. A tummy tuck is a cosmetic case where skin and fat is also removed but the abdominal muscles are typically tightened. Insurance will not pay.

Muscle Repair: A panniculectomy will only remove excess skin and soft tissue of the lower abdomen (abdominal panniculus), the 'apron' of sagging skin below the belly button. A tummy tuck will address both the upper and lower abdomen and tighten the rectus abdominis muscle. http://www.cosmeticsurg.net/procedures/tummy-tuck/
