Can't breathe = 911: Croup and asthma are different problems, but can happen in the same child. He can be on asthma meds during croup (which is viral usually) if he gets asthma symptoms like wheezing. If the croup is more than mild, or if there was a prior croup illness needing medications, the dr. Will want to see the child as soon as possible. If a child "can't breathe", one should call 911 for an ambulance now.
