My 4y/o daughter been congested, with a runny nose and coughing at night took her to see pediatrician and she prescribed prednisolone 15mg she is 37 pounds is that the right dose? and albuterol hfa90mca for wheezing. she doesnt suffer from asthma?

That is the correct dose for prednisolone. It is usually dosed as 1 mg per kg of body weight. She must have been wheezing on exam or the doctor thought she had coughing fits that could be helped by albuterol. This does not mean she has asthma - just that she sounded like an asthmatic with this illness.

If the wheezing recurs with other respiratory infections, she may have asthma. The prednisolone is the correct dose for her weight and may be used for typically 3 to 5 days. If she continues to cough and wheeze, please let your pediatrician know. A Flu vaccination is recommended. A virtual consult with HT is available
