O2 dependence?: Unless the person you saw on a treadmill with an oxygen mask was being studied on a research project, it is likely that the patient has chronic lung disease and requires o2 supplementation to exercise.

Stress with mask...: It sounds like you may be describing cardiopulmonary exercise testing (cpet) or pulmonary function testing (pft).
