A member asked:

I was wondering is it normal to get gingivitis when you have braces?

NO!: Gingivitis is an infection. It's caused by poor oral hygiene not removing bacterial plaque from your teeth. The bacteria then produce digestive enzymes which, in turn, damage your gums. While it is moe challenging to clean properly with braces in place, diligence will resolve the issue. Ask your qualified orthodontic specialist for modified braces cleaning instructions.

No it is not: Getting gingivitis while having braces is positively not a normal thing , that means your are not following proper oral hygiene practices . It is harder to keep your teeth and gums healthy with the presence of braces, but there are modified cleaning techniques that your orthodontist can show you.
