Good oral hygiene: Use a water pik, floss and brush the best as you can. I know keeping your mouth clean with braces is challenging but try your best.

Another : Suggestion in addition to the information already provided is using a mechanical toothbrush. Oral b triumph is an excellent mechanical brush and they make a specific orthodontic head to fit their power handle. You might want to check into it. The water pik is also a terrific tool adjunctively. Good luck. Be sure you're brushing 2-3 times per day. Water pik is once a day at night before brus.

This is common: Swollen gums are a telltale sign of poor plaque removal. Braces crowd the surface of the tooth, making it more difficult to brush and clean the remaining exposed areas, including the gum line. Massaging the gums with a soft tooth brush can relieve swelling and pain. Rinsing with a saltwater solution of 1/2 teaspoon salt to a glass of warm water cleans the gums while decreasing inflammation.
