Yes: If this is the only marker that was present as positive on a urinary dip stick it does not have to be a urinary tract infection. A urinalysis with microscopy would verify if the leukocyte esterase is from an elevated white blood cell count in the urine or a lab error. If you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection send off a urine for culture and treat empirically.

Positive leukocyte esterase in urine. Does that mean UTI?
Hi I had a urine test and had positive leukocyte esterase. No other symptoms. Can it mean anything other than a UTI or could it be lab error?
Last 6 urine tests have shown abnormal values for Leukocyte Esterase from 75-500. What could this be indicative of? There is no bacteria culture pressent and no UTI symptoms. Please help and thank you.
NOT a UTI so, what could urine test that contains Ketones 0.5 mmol/L, Erythrocytes 0.3mg/L & Leukocyte Esterase 75WBC/uL mean? No bacteria growing.
