Would a transvaginal scan show cysts in the ovaries and/or signs of cancer? how long do results take?

Yes: A transvaginal scan is an excellent test for showing ovarian cysts. Characteristics of ovarian cancer may also be demonstrated however the transvaginal scan has not been shown to be a good screening study for ovarian cancer. Results of the study are usually dictated the same day they are done.

Yes: Yes, it will show cysts and or any findings suspicious for ovarian cancer. It will also evaluate the uterus. It only takes a few minutes for the radiologist to read, but the images may not be interpreted right away and the report may be given only to the referring doctor...But if you tell them your concern you might get lucky with a quick read/report.
