Homozygous: For mthfr most treatments are for homozygous. Supplemental folate (folic acid) should be taken. Talk to your doctor and have a family member come with you to write down the answers to your questions. Heterozygous have a copy of normal genes do generally protected.

Complicated: Mthfr c677t mutation should be treated with methylfolate (and not regular, synthetic folic acid) along with cofactors methyl or hydroxy b12, b2 and b6 most integrative doctors believe that both homozygous and heterozygous should be treated in this manner (unless there are other methylation defects). The a1298c mutation is more likely to affect neurotransmitter production so treatment is different.
