Dysplasia: Dysplasia is a premalignant change in the cells typically of the cervix or endocervix. These cells have made the first step towards becoming cancer cells. Metaplasia refers to changes of the mucosa (lining cells of an organ) in a part of the body to a different type of mucosa that is not normally see in that location. This is not malignant but an adaptive change due to trauma or inflammation.
