no: Surgery should be the last resort. There are many no surgical options that can help. I would suggest seeing a dentist who can diagnoses and treat you in a non surgical way before considering surgery.

See a DDS : To stop over closure of the lower jaw you must place an orthotic that will open the bite by restoring your vertical back to normal. Your teeth are like your fingers which are extensions of the respective bones that are necessary for proper function. If you lose the heights of your teeth or lose your fingers the jaw and hands will not function as well.

Malocclusion: Malocclusion is often cause of, or contributory factor in, TMJ syndrome. May need oral surgeon and restorative dentist, but first need the malocclusion fixer. Find an experienced university trained fully qualified orthodontic specialist who is trained in malocclusion resolution.

More than 1 opinion: Get more than one opinion and I would see a TMJ/TMD specialist, whom might send you to an oral surgeon. But depends on evaluation

Uncertain: Uncertain. Perhaps. Very complex problem. Depends on your symptoms. You need a team approach involving TMJ expert, orthodontist and oral surgeon. Good luck.
