Orofacial pain: When dislocation does occur, the patient is in obvious distress with pain that increases at each attempt to close his/her jaw. The mandible is locked open with contact only between the most posterior teeth and an anterior open bite. See an orofacial pain practitioner for evaluation and treatment.

Disc: There's a cartilaginous disc in each jaw joint. If the disc becomes displaced it can adversely alter jaw joint function, preventing teeth from concluding properly. Call your Dentist immediately.
