make appt with doc: Ingrown toenails need to be periodically checked by a podiatrist and cut because they are constantly growing.

Ingrown toe nail: Ingrown toe nails do hurt. You have had a reoccurring toe nail that has been treated and yet it comes back. You will need to see a podiatrist and have a partial matrixectomy (kill the part of the tissue that grows the nail). That should take care of it.

Surgery...: All surgery on a toenail is relatively minor, so i don't know exactly what you are categorizing as major and minor. Not all procedures are 100% successful, so you may need a repeat or revisional surgery.

Ingrown nail: Whenever an ingrown nail is removed . The growth center at that site should be destroyed. Whether that is via chemical matrixectomy or laser is the surgeon's choice. You need to see a podiatrist who will excise the offending nail and kill the matrix in that area to prevent recurrance.
