Ingrown : That is a question best answered by your surgeon - he / she knows what is best for you . Having said that , my patients usually wear them right away.

I let my : Patients wear them immediately after surgery. Anytime one has a surgery they should follow their surgeon's protocol though.

What can I do to protect my toe during a shower after having surgery for an ingrown toenail?

Bag it: You can place your foot in a bag and wrap it with duct tape to keep the water out if you are taking a shower. In addition prior to placing your foot in the bag you could wrap your foot with a towel in case water gets inside the bag. Alternatively you could go to a medical supply store and purchase a shower cover for the foot.
