Call your doctor: While anesthesia can persist for hours after surgery, depending on what medication us used, numbness days later isn't typical. Anytime you have a concern after a surgical procedure, your doctor is the best person to contact, for your peace of mind...And his.

Bandages that are too tight will do this as well. Cut a longitudinal slit in them to loosen them

Nail: Paresthesia or numbness is not uncommon after local nerve blocks; permanent nerve damage it's unlikely from a simple nail avulsion. Sometimes inflammation and nerve irritation causes numbness. "sensation" to the toe should come back slowly, if symptoms persist let your surgeon know.

What can I do to protect my toe during a shower after having surgery for an ingrown toenail?

Bag it: You can place your foot in a bag and wrap it with duct tape to keep the water out if you are taking a shower. In addition prior to placing your foot in the bag you could wrap your foot with a towel in case water gets inside the bag. Alternatively you could go to a medical supply store and purchase a shower cover for the foot.
