Recurrent ingrown ?: If the part above the toenail is inflamed and hurts, you may have a recurrent ingrown nail or an infection, so as a precaution, take an appropriate oral antibiotic. Proper wound and foot hygiene is also important. Call a foot specialist/ podiatrist for an appointment at your earliest convenience, to see if that part of the toe is indeed infected, or you have a recurrent ingrown nail.

Ingrown toenail: If, after the ingrown toenail was removed, a chemical agent (usually phenol) was added to prevent the recurrence of the ingrown, it is possible that you may have irritation present. Please return to the podiatrist or foot specialist that treated you to rule out that possibility versus a soft tissue infection to the area which will need treatment. Good luck!

Inflamed: This is usually related to the phenol used , but can be necrotic debris , too. It is always best to see your surgeon for assistance.
