In some cases, GERD: Or gastroesophageal reflux disease can weaken the enamel which is thinnest in the cervical (neck) part of the teeth, therefore, makes the second layer, dentin (softer than enamel) susceptible to decalcification caused by acid. If oral hygiene is compromised, it will be like adding insult to the injury due to the proliferation of bacteria, hence, the rotting of the exposed area of the teeth.
