Can be: If the necrotic nerve material has yet to be removed from the offending tooth, swelling may remain until that is accomplished.

Yes: After undergoing an incision and drainage of an abscess, you should have immediate reduction in the size of the abscess. If the procedure required a more extensive procedure to drain the abscess, some residual swelling may be present as a result of the dissection to locate and drain the abscess.

Not uncommon: A dental abscess is a serious infection and after drainage there can also be moderate swelling in the face for a few days. If concerned,. see your surgeon for post-op appointment.
