i hit my wrist earlier, and it seems the vein has swollen. the area around it is red, and my palm is tingling. should i be concerned?

Accepted Answer

Not to worry: you have a "contusion" or "bruising" and hit the nerve as well as the veins in your wrist. ICE is the best INITIAL treatment followed by HEAT after the first 48 hours!
Your symptoms should resolve within 7 days   If still symptomatic after a week check it out with your PCP (Primary Care Provider)

yesterday i noticed that my right wrist veins (where you can check your pulse) my veins where bulged swollen darker blue then usual and very painful. i didn't hit it on anything and never experienced it before but today, the painis worse. what is it?

: Vein pain can be related to outside temperatures and muscle strains which should self resolve. Thrombophlebitis, chronic venous insufficiency and varicose veins usually present  with symptoms of underlying diseases. If it persists, please see your doctor today as weekend is approaching. i was wrestling and my arm got hit wrong and now my wrist hurts and nys vein is swollen. i think i hit my vein wrong. is this a need to go to the hospital?

: If you do not see significant wrist deformity and you can move the wrist with some tolerable pain you have a wrist sprain. Just apply ice pack every 4-6 hours, restrict wrist activity, raise wrist above heart level at rest, take tylenol or advil, prn. for pain for a couple days. If there is significant deformity and/or your wrist' s range of motion is severely limited, you should go to urgent care

i have a painful swollen bump in a vein on the palm of my hand? the bump appeared about 36 hours ago and continues to get worse. i have not hit it or injuried it in anyway.

If : If it's a small thrombosed vein in the skin, it will hurt for a few days and then clear up.  If there are no signs of anything worse, i would give it some time.

: If the vein in this area was accessed for blood draw or administering any liquids or medication or blood, it can cause phlebitis giving rise to pain and swelling in the area. It should respond to hot/cold compresses and NSAIDS like ibuprofen. Hope it helps.

Soft tissue trauma: It sounds like soft tissue trauma, but because of the discomfort and swelling it is worthwhile having your finace examined as soon as possible. Excessive swelling can compress important structures in this area and lead to further damage, so be careful and get it checked.

i banged the inside of my wrist on the flat part of a nail. it caused a minor abrasion that bled very little and my vein is now swollen, hard and painful. should i be worried?

Phlebitis : this is some type of phlebitis. given this is a superficial vein warm compress an NSAID should probably resolve the issue. if you would experience any redness or fever this can get infected should be seen.

Thrombophlebotis: Is most likely. You ned ultrasound to rule out DVT use warm compresses and ibuprofen.

Hematoma or IV infil: You either have a small hematoma at the site of IV insertion or had IV fluid or medication infiltrated into the soft tissue next to the vein where the IV was inserted, do warm compresses. Take a face-cloth, wet it, few seconds in microwave..warm compress every few hours.
