hi, i was told i have a cyst on my right ovary, should i be concern that it hurts. doctor said from the ultra sound i was fine. so why does it hurt?

Cyst rupture: Ovarian cysts are quite common and can cause pain as they enlarge or if they rupture.  If the pain is severe and unresponsive to pain medications you should be elevated.

i had a ultrasound done last week, & a 5.8 solid mass cyst was discovered on my right  ovary, which the doc said doesn't look cancerous.

Only one way to know: Unfortunately with these masses the only way to know for sure what it is, is to undergo surgery to remove and examine the types of cells involved under microscope. If it's a round mass w/out any other lumps/bumps then maybe it's benign but no way to know for sure. You can consider observing it to see if it gets bigger in a few months or you can plan surgery. These masses can twist and cause pain.

i went for my annual obgyn appt, where after doing the internal exam i was told i had a mass on my right ovary.  the ultrasound showed nothing, what is it?

Cyst?: You might have had a cyst on the ovary related to your normal menstrual cycle (assuming you are still having periods). Basic info like your age and menstrual status is helpful. If the ultrasound was done days later a cyclic cyst could well resolve. A stool filled loop of bowel might have confused the physical exam findings.

i have had lower right pain for about 5 months. i am on the pill and last month received an ultrasound showing swollen right ovary and cysts on my right ovary. they changed my pill and i am still in pain.  should i go back to the doc or wait it out?

Going back now: As pain is no better, then may be time to get recheck of cyst. May need a laparoscopy of other testing as well.

i have all the symptoms of ovarian cancer and they are worsening. doc did an external ultrasound and pelvic ct and has told me theres nothing wrong. i have sharp pain in the right ovary area which is excruciating during sex. did they miss something?

: Probably as your symptoms remain largely unexplained and while work up so far is reassuring as far as ovarian cancer, local inflammation of a different etiology remains likely. Establishing and following up with an Obs-Gyn would be best in trying to elucidate the cause for your symptoms.

hello! i had a pelvic ultrasound (non transvaginal) and it showed a cyst on my right ovary of 4 cm. are pelvic ultrasounds sufficient enough to show ovarian cysts without transvaginal? i turned the vaginal one. doc wants to monitor cyst?

Not likely: Very rare in your age group. More likely a fibroid or cyst-neither of which is cancer. Prob best to discuss treatment options with obgyn to see if it needs surgery or observation.

Anything: Most people think their whole abdomen is their stomach, but the stomach is in the upper middle or upper left of the abdomen.  If your lower abdomen hurts, that could be your skin, muscles, bladder, uterus, or intestines. If the upper part of your abdomen hurts, it could be acid reflux, pancreatitis, or other problems. See a doctor for an assessment.

Cysts are common.: It is normal for ovaries to change in size from month to month and to develop cysts or follicles. The cyst that develops during pregnancy is called a corpus luteum and it shrinks over time. You may see your doctor for another ultrasound if you want to prove to yourself that it has gone away.

i did a pelvic ultrasound on day 7 of my cycle and the doctor said i have 2 normal/healthy follicles in my right ovary. does this mean i will ovulate?

Accepted Answer

Probably: Follicles that are destined to release an egg will show growth as you approach mid cycle. Other follicles will regress and get smaller.
