Visit your surgeon: 5 days after a third molar extraction you should still be sore, but starting to feel better. If this is the case continue following your post treatment instructions. Remember, you had a surgery involving sensitive bone and oral tissue. If you are in more pain, you may have a complication and should followup with your surgeon.

is it normal that my gum feels itchy after a tooth extraction?its been a week now (2nd molar). ive had itching on and off and assumed its healing?

Appears Normal: People heal differently, and depending on the difficulty of the extraction, it can take up to two weeks for the gingiva to close over the socket. Do you have sutures? After a week the sutures can be saturated with bacteria and that can certainly cause the area to feel "itchy". If you have no real pain or swelling, you should be fine.

i've been struggling with terrible anxiety post molar extraction. i'm now on day 10 of healing. can i stop panicking about dry socket? i still have white tissue visible while the gums are healing, no pain, etc. is it bad i'm not fully healed yet?

See your Dentist: See the dentist or oral surgeon who extracted the tooth for a thorough evaluation.

Without seeing the problem, it is hard to determine if you are have normal or unusual symptoms.
Depending on the severity of the problem, post-operative sensitivity or pain are normal events.  Bruising to the adjacent area may also occur.

Healing: For most people extraction ion sites are no longer symptomatic after 3 months, but for a very few others healing can take longer. Please return to the General Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon that did your extraction to have the extraction site re-examined. Hopefully all that you will need is tincture of time.

Healing: Healing should progress uneventfully.  You should be a little less sore every day with most soreness gone in under 2 weeks.  Bone and soft tissues will take longer to heal, with the majority of healing changes completed in about 6 months.  Usually important to have extracted tooth replaced (implant/crown or bridge) to prevent occlusion from collapsing.  Talk to your Dentist.

Post Op Ext Symptoms: Good afternoon;
Extraction may have required removal of bone and gingival tissue directly around extraction site which would cause the area to be quite tender for a prolonged period of time. Monitor the degree of tenderness on daily basis; would expect diminished soreness in subsequent days. Temporarily, a benzocaine gel like Zilactin-B may help. If not consult with DDS.
