Post Op Ext Symptoms: Good afternoon; Extraction may have required removal of bone and gingival tissue directly around extraction site which would cause the area to be quite tender for a prolonged period of time. Monitor the degree of tenderness on daily basis; would expect diminished soreness in subsequent days. Temporarily, a benzocaine gel like Zilactin-B may help. If not consult with DDS.

Healing: The length of time for healing after surgery depends on the extent of the surgery, whether or not the are was infected, the skill of the practitioner, whether you have systemic problems that can affect healing, the medications that you take, and your diet. Three weeks seems a bit long. If area is not getting a little better every day, call your treating Dentist.
