Sorethroat/ Lymph: "reactive lymphoid hyperplasia" means that the lymph node was responding to an infection or inflammation in the adjacent area, like the very sore throat you described. I would imagine the lymph node has been enlarged for quite a while. Typically no need to fna a lymph node in the face of acute inflammatory process.
See local ENT for a complete head ; neck exam and maybe a throat culture ; mono spot.

why might it be that my reactive lymph node pain comes and goes?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for bad things like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge (pain) in response to the inflammation created when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Lymphadinopathy: This just means its been stimulated by something...like bacteria or an infection.  The swelling which happens when our immune system see's something foreign should go down in the lymph node in time.

my result patology lymph node was reactive follicullar hyperplasia but i have pain in my whole body yet? whats the matter?

Accepted Answer

Not the lymph node: The node is benign -- it was just fighting on your behalf. Your "total body pain" may be anything from fibromyalgia to vitamin d deficiency to lupus to polymyositis to polymyalgia rheumatica to someone who doesn't like you poisoning you with arsenic to many others. A proper history and physical with a few basic labs should identify the cause. Good luck ; stay proactive.

can reactive neck lymph nodes feel more oval than round? have a lymph node that i think feels about 2cm x 1cm in size (feels much longer than wide).

Yes: It can.  But best to see doctor and have this evaluated to be sure it is not something else.  If that big best to be evaluated.  Several other things besides enlarged lymph nodes can cause masses in the neck.  Hope this was helpful  Best of luck with this.  Dr. R

i have intraparotid lymph node in peft side 1,2 cm. i did ultrasound there ue said its reactive no other issues. but i worry. sometimes i feel there like tightening. how long it goes away? should i worry abou it?

: Is there dry mouth? The tightening may just reflect muscle tension because you are anxious or because of mild inflammation. You may want to drink water intermittently to reduce bacteria in the mouth by washing away. The lymph node is so small that you may just want to watch and wait rather than being anxious. You are going to follow with your local medical practitioner anyway in a few weeks.

Get FNA or Biospy: Infections and nonmicrobial inflammatory stimuli often activate immune cells  in lymph nodes and can cause reactive lymphadentitis.   The infections causing lymphadenitis are varied and numerous, and may be acute or chronic.  If yours has lasted 2 years it is clearly chronic.  However, if your doctor did not do a fine needle aspirate, or take cultures the swollen node could be more serious.

a solitary reactive lymph node was noted in each axilla" after routine 2 yearly mammogram. do i need to do anything about this?

Accepted Answer

No: If the lymph nodes are normal sized and have been stable in size over a long period of time (&gt;1year), then continue yearly mammograms.
It is important to perform your own breast self exam monthly. Be sure to check under the armpit, which is where the lymph nodes are, and squeeze the nipple to check for discharge.

cervical chain lymph node 3.8 x 1.2 x 0.8 cm. upper limits normal size cervical chain lymph nodes in the region of concern. these are likely reactive.

Accepted Answer

Reactive: When a lymph node is determined to be reactive, that usually means that it doesn't have the appearance of something cancerous.  It would be good for you to follow up with your doc to make sure, though.  Hope this helps!
