Generally: with advanced imaging....and this will most likely lead to imaging  directed BIOPSY....only after that will an EXACT diagnosis and most suitable treatment be determined!

can a benign kidney mass cause kidney stones?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: A benign kidney mass, the most common is called a simple cyst, does not cause kidney stones. Stasis of urine, diet and genetics cause stones. If there is calcium (or stones) within the mass then it may not be benign and a pre and post contrast ct or MRI is needed to determine what is going on.

is it still worthwhile to have an mri--even without gadolinium contrast--to determine if my kidney mass is a hemorrhagic cyst vs. a neoplasm?

Kidney mass: I believe that an MRI can make that distinction, but this question is best answered by the radiologist. Your attending physician can confer with the radiologist and get advice about what imaging test is best for further evaluation of the mass.

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, mass and lesion are the same. The small size of the lesion more or less rules out a cancer.    Wish you good health!

mri report shows bosniak type 2f kidney mass measures 7cm n some retroperitoneal adenopathy measures 1cm. should i worry? is this a sign of cancer?

Bosniak 2F: Usually, this type of cyst is benign. However a small percentage do have cancer potential. This kind of lesion requires repeat imaging to make sure it doesn't change appearance. Lymph nodes are very common in everyone, and 1 cm size is not "pathologically" enlarged, but these too would be remeasured at any follow up imaging.

: A kidney lesion can be a simple cyst, complex cyst or a mass. Your lesion is characterized as low density 6 mm lesion by CT with contrast so it is likely a cyst. If needed, renal ultrasound can confirm that but I doubt the necessity.

Yes: Patients who have survived  thyroid cancer have an increased risk of suffering a second malignancy, including renal cell carcinoma. A higher prevalence of genitourinary and kidney tumors has been reported in women with differentiated thyroid carcinoma.This association could be related to the specific treatment of the disease or to a genetic predisposition.

See Nephrologist: Kidney lesions are usually not biopsied and monitored.
If suspicious for cancer will need partial nephrectomy but is unlikely at your age.
Work up for hyperkalemia(high potassium) need to be done by a kidney doctor.
While kidney insufficiency is a major cause of high potassium, it is not the only one.

i had us of my kidney the lab result shows i have subtle isoechoic mass of 2.8 cm what does it means?

Here are some...: If living up to &gt; 50, some 35-50% of persons will develop small cysts in kidneys, which display themselves as isoechoic mass. For a 2.8-cm one, it is reasonable to just follow it conservatively by repeating a renal US in one year for comparison; that is enough. By the way, do you have blood in the urine? More? Ask your PCP or urologist. Best wish...
