Bunion surgery: Pain at 6 months can occur but x rays should be performed to assess bony healing. There are so many different types of bunionectomies that from this vantage point it is difficult to say for sure if pain at 6 months is normal or not.

i have have a foot deformity called metatarsus adductus and moderate bunions on both feet. what type of surgery for bunions is recommended?

Their are many: Procedures for bunions with met adductus vary for the individual. It depends on how much deformity there is, how much motion to 1st metatarsal or hypermobility is present and others so without seeing your x-rays and foot it is difficult to say.  Seek second opinion if you are not comfortable with the 1st one.

Accepted Answer

Variety of options: If the bunions are painful, then you can do physical therapy.  Otherwise, change in shoes (no high heels, pointy toe shoes), orthotics.  There is no way to get rid of bunions without surgical intervention.

Yes : Especially if you want to minimize exposure to anesthesia.

i stood a long time today . i had bunion surgery. i have a cast on my foot swelled  up. is that dangerous?

Accepted Answer

Thats normal under -: The circumstances you describe.
Reduce the standing/walking on your feet to a minimum for at least 2 weeks, as by then most of the swelling would have greatly improved.
It can be dangerous for the swelling to occur in a cast, so make sure to see your surgeon, and let him advise you, how best to take care of your operated foot.

had bunion surgery 2 1/2 yr ago, been wearing heels since then & no problem. wore them after long time yesterday & very small hard bump has appeared where bunion used to be. is this swelling? will it go away? most recent surgery on other foot is fine?

: The good news it’s not painful. It could be slowing do too your activity in the shoes you were wearing. With proper icing and anti-inflammatory medication it should resolve without any problem. If it continues it’s very possible that a ganglionic cyst  developing . This is not a problem to worry about it can be taken care of very nicely and easily. If it continues to concern you go back to surgeon

doc says bunion not  worth surgery, maybe in 10 yrs if gets worse. but i feel pain when i walk & at times pain feels like a strain, cant step on foot?

Injection: As a rheumatologist, I have injected the big toe which can reduce pain for a period of time. Orthotics or special inserts could be made to take the pressure off the bunion. If those do not work then getting a second surgical opinion may be helpful since you should not have to wait 10 years if something could be fixed now. Good luck

exostectomy to correct failed osteotomy surgery? had bunion surgery on both feet, left 2018 - successful, right 2020 - toe straight but there's a large bump on the side now. would shaving the bone fix issue? currently have pins in both 2keep straight?

: Bunion procedures are not so that one procedure fits all. Every foot is different. The skill of the surgeon is responsible for any complications.  There are exceptions. If the incorrect procedure  was chosen , failure is going to happen. This is what makes bunion surgery very difficult to be 100%, 100% of the time.  I would recommend going back to original surgeon and get a second opinion .
